How Slava.Art started
The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022 following the Russian Federation’s invasion of the country. As a result of heavy shelling and fighting, an estimated 6
million people have been driven from their homes and are internally displaced. More than 8 million people have crossed into neighboring countries in the region including Poland, Hungary, Moldova and other countries across Europe. Poland has welcomed the greatest number of Ukrainian refugees, hosting nearly 60 percent of all refugees from Ukraine.
Missile and rocket attacks have caused widespread death, destruction of homes and businesses and severely damaged energy infrastructures across Ukraine. The energy crisis is disrupting public access to water, electricity, heating, healthcare, education and social protection. Many Ukrainians are living in damaged homes or in buildings ill-prepared for life-threatening freezing temperatures. As the war continues, humanitarian needs are multiplying and spreading. An estimated 17.6 million people in Ukraine will need humanitarian assistance in 2023.
As a family, we intimately understand the dire situation faced by Ukrainians, as some of our own loved ones had to flee their homes in Ukraine, while others are actively fighting to protect the country. Witnessing these heart-wrenching experiences firsthand has fueled our empathy and determination to make a difference.
In collaboration with various organizations, we have raised funds and journeyed to Poland and Ukraine to support Ukrainian refugees. Our first hand encounters with the horrors of war inflicted upon Ukraine and its people have left a profound impact on our hearts. Despite these challenges, we have also been inspired by the incredible kindness and generosity displayed by people worldwide who stand in solidarity with Ukraine, supporting its pursuit of democracy, independence, and fairness.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have already shown unwavering support, but we also urge you to continue your kindness and generosity during these trying times for Ukraine and its people. Your support is not just appreciated; it is absolutely critical for the survival and well-being of Ukraine and its people.
Together, let us be a beacon of hope and compassion for Ukraine. By joining hands and offering our continued support, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the ongoing crisis. Your contribution matters, and it is a testament to the power of collective empathy and action. With your support, we can uphold the values of freedom, democracy, and fairness, safeguarding the future of Ukraine and helping its people rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. Thank you for being a part of this vital mission.
With immense gratitude,
Sasha & Lisa
