Supporting Ukrainian Refugees in Poland: a Journey of Hope
The heart-wrenching impact of war on Ukraine and its citizens has reverberated globally. Through Slava.Art's collaborations with several organizations, we have been more than mere observers, and have taken steps to extend our help to those in need.
Our voyages to Poland and Ukraine have opened our eyes to the raw reality of the crisis. The devastation we've witnessed first-hand is a stark reminder of the tragedy and resilience of the human spirit. Yet, amidst this turmoil, a global community's unwavering support for Ukraine stands as a beacon of hope, affirming the universal values of democracy, independence, and justice.
A notable mention is the initiative by Szafir Moryń, where the owner, Marek Kolbowicz, along with his devoted team, has offered refuge to 135 Ukrainian orphans since the war's onset. These young souls receive not just shelter but also nutritious meals, essential amenities, and education tailored to Ukrainian standards.
Then, there's JCC Krakow, under the able leadership of CEO Jonathan Ornstein, which has emerged as a pivotal hub for Ukrainian aid. From serving as a distribution point for donations to assisting refugees with food, shelter, transportation, and employment opportunities, the JCC Krakow team's contributions have been invaluable.
The heart of our support resonates with the schools that have opened their doors wide for young Ukrainian minds. A school in Krakow, under the caring leadership of principal Magdalena (Magda) Mazur, has welcomed over 70 Ukrainian children. Our interactions during the summer of 2022 reinforced the significance of our efforts. The funds we contribute are vital, ensuring these children receive not just academic support but also sustenance and vital life experiences, such as summer camps.
Similarly, the school in Czernichow, steered by the committed Principal Anna Rams, caters to around 30 Ukrainian students. Our association with this institution has been a journey of understanding, empathy, and action. The funds we've provided are channelled to furnish school supplies, food, clothing, and even essentials like eyeglasses.
We're deeply moved by the collective efforts and the spirit of solidarity shown by people and institutions worldwide. It reaffirms our belief that in times of adversity, humanity shines its brightest.
